Letter from the Editors
The Alchemists
Welcome to Issue Two of Midnight Chem! While Issue One was about opening the door, Issue Two is about crossing the threshold.
In this issue we cast readers as participants in the alchemy of writing. Some highlights include a new form of poetry that blends cento, ekphrasis, and ecopoesis; a lyrical meditation on the essentially kaleidoscopic nature of personal experience; a philosophical essay that defamiliarizes the ubiquitous door; a series of collages that play with spatial and temporal dimensionality; an exploration of the linguistic boundaries of "love"; and a story that highlights the reader's complicity in the consumption of narrative entertainment.
Returning visitors to the labs may have noticed some staffing changes. The Midnight Chem editorial team is now leaner and more focused. Simultaneously, we are transitioning from a two-issue-per-year release schedule to a one-issue-per-year format to enhance our ability to deliver high-quality content to our readers.
Thank you to all of our wonderful contributors and readers for supporting this second issue of Midnight Chem. To those interested in participating in the third experiment, submissions for Issue Three will be open from January 1st through March 15th, 2025. We look forward to seeing your work.
